Business Analyst

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Application business analysis and IT technical solution consulting and application deployment planning and execution for both vendor and internally developed applications

  • Need experience in formal requirements analysis and solicitation 

  • Builds and manages relationships with key stakeholders involved with system enhancements

  • Researches and analyzes questions and issues to ensure a comprehensive design in development is made utilizing the best technology

  • Reviews and understands business details of application enhancement requests

  • Documents specifications to the appropriate detail level using the appropriate documentation

  • Collaborates with technical staff when developing a new system enhancement

  • Assists project managers with developing project task estimates

  • Participates in acceptance testing of enhancements for maintenance enhancements and new system releases. Makes sure that best practice testing processes are utilized

  • May also be asked to prepare, script, and execute test cases

  • Works with the Project Manager and Technical Team to resolve issues identified during testing

  • Effectively documents items for others to be used in decision making, coding and procedures. Ensures appropriate documentation is completed and stored in the repository database

  • Works with Project Manager to provide the necessary documentation so appropriate training can be delivered and appropriate procedure guides updated

  • Communicates status of project tasks to Project Manager. Is particularly diligent in reporting task changes that impact project schedules

  • Communicates with Technical Analyst with regards to specification changes

  • Communicates to business partners final specifications

  • Bridging between the business partner and the technical team by acting as a technical liaison and stakeholder advocate 

  • Collaborate with customers to ensure alternatives have been carefully considered and that the chosen solution meets business objectives

  • Conducts Requirements Gathering Sessions with the business in Phase 2 - eliciting, facilitating, documenting, and finalizing business requirements (e.g. process modeling, data, business rules, functions, etc.)

  • Developing test cases and plans, run system testing, conduct testing validation

  • Identifying alternatives in context of business opportunity and business processes

  • Ensuring business’ requirements are met

  • Applying a foundation of technical knowledge to a variety of business needs using industry standards and information protection policies 

  • Applying Operational Excellence principles, practices, and processes

  • Contributing to enterprise architecture development from a business needs point of view

  • Prepares Requirements Documents, Testing Plans and other documents requested from the Project Manager

  • Familiar with the Business Analyst Body of Knowledge materials

Skills and qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively engage business and technical resources on all levels.

  • Strong meeting facilitation skills and presentation skills.

  • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements

  • Experience working in the Oil and Gas industry
